What Happens if you Get Superglue in your Eye?

If you get any sort of super glue(includes Mister Glue and any other similar types) in the eye do not try and force it open if the eyelids have bonded to each other or to the eyeball. Initial treatment is to wash thoroughly with warm water and apply a gauze patch. After doing this seek medical attention. The eyeball will open on its own in a few days. There are no incidents of super glue in eyes causing permenant damage.

Super glues(cyanoacrylates) attach to the protein in the eye to glue eyes shut but will come apart naturally starting fairly quickly. It stings a lot and there may be a lot of watering from the tear ducts but again no permanent damage.

Use of a warmed 3% sodium bicarbonate solution to wash eyes repeatedly may assist in aiding more rapid removal of the adhesive. Other materials that can be used to help open the eye are petroleum jelly and K-Y Jelly. Let your doctor know of these remedies as not all of them know this.

Purchase HereAbove all, do not try and force it.  Without the above methods, the body will handle and dissolve the glue eventually.  Also, if you get superglue in the eye, or any of these others, it will sting at first.  I know from first hand experience.  The sting dissipates fairly rapidly.

The above procedures should apply to all cyanoacrylates.

Obviously, the best thing is to prevent glue in eye or eyes by wearing some sort of protective gear. Glasses or goggles for the few minutes that you are using can keep from gluing eyes together in the first place.
