Ceramic Planter Repair

Fairly recently we got a new kitten.  It has tons of energy and has kept me busy repairing things.  Luckily I have lots of glue.

There are several steps needed here gluing the bits and pieces of this planter back together.

Step by Step

Honestly, this was not my best job ever.  I was a bit hurried and did not practice enough.  Thus, one of the joints is actually noticeable.  You don’t have a lot of time to mess around with this product (Mister Glue). It is extremely strong but also very fast setting

Clean the surfaces.  All you want to do it clean off any dust and debris.  In this video I used a can of pressurized air.  Same stuff you might use to clean your computer.

Then try putting the two surfaces together. Practice. This is before you apply the glue or Accelerator.  Do it several times so you know the best way.  If you have several pieces, you may also want to figure the best sequence

In this case I had two large pieces which I glue on first.  Then there were three small pieces that I glued together into one.  Then I was able to attach that all at once.

Important:

There are likely other things I do because I have used the glue a lot but this one is fairly important.  When you are running a strip of glue along an edge, don’t go past the point where it is going to be attached.  If you do that it will minutely add to the surface and the next piece won’t go in tight enough.

You will see in the video that when I’m applying the glue I don’t go past the ‘corners’.

If any glue squeezes out the edges, just leave it and use a sharp edge to gently scrape off once dry.

There is a lot more info throughout the website.  There is a search function and a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page.  If you can’t find what you are looking for or an answer to your question, go to the contact page and email me.  Or you can comment.

Testimonial
Here is a recent testimonial sent in from a customer using Mister Glue:

"If you're anything like me, you're prone to a mistake or two every now and then. However, there's nothing better than that feeling when you mess up and you you have a real solution to fixing the problem before it gets any worse.

I had a very close friend who is well travelled and always bringing trinkets back from her trips. Some valuable, some just sentimental. But at the time I was living with her and she had this things all over the house and one day I was carefully moving a shelf with another roommate to rearrange the living room a little bit. Unfortunately, neither of us realized that there was a ceramic sheet with a painting on it that she had recently brought back from Egypt leaning on said shelf. The second we started to move it I noticed and watched it fall in slow motion.

*Crash*

The painting broke in half and a couple small pieces flung across the floor. My heart dropped a little bit and I had a feeling my roommate wouldn’t be ecstatic that her souvenir had broken so soon after she had gotten it. Especially since I broke it.

She wasn’t home at the time, so I put it to the side and went to work hoping to be able to fix it or make it up to her somehow. I went on with my day nearly forgetting about it. But then I remembered I had this little bottle of Mister Glue sitting in my freezer that I haven’t had much use for. But I got home, pulled it out and it hadn’t dried up in the bottle and was as good as new.

She walked into the kitchen holding her broken Egyptian painting with a frown and asked me if I knew what happened to it. I smiled, took the pieces from her, glued it back together and handed it back to her 20 seconds later and said. “I Broke it” and smiled. The crack wasn’t noticeable unless you held it right up to your face, it was as solid as ever after 20 seconds of gluing it back together.

She wanted to be mad for a second, but then looked down at it and realized she couldn’t tell it had ever broken, smiled and thanked me.

I was so happy to have been to fix my mistake. I know that this may seem a little silly “Oh cool, this guy found out about glue. That’s what it’s there for.” But I’ve never had a glue work that well. It always gets everywhere and have the time it doesn’t hold together whatever your trying to fix for very long. Also, half the time you go to use the stuff, you bought it a year ago and it’s dried up in the bottle and unusable. I’ve had this bottle of Mister Glue now for a couple of years and it’s been usable any time I’ve needed it since then."  Vic M., Portland, OR
