Drawbacks are that it will not fill gaps. Using a powder such as baking soda with the glue can help with this. A small bit of filler with at drop of Mister Glue goes solidifies almost instantly.  

Mister Glue and similar types of glue need a certain amount of surface area to bond properly. It will not hold two ends of metal together that are only 1/16 of an inch in diameter.

BUT when you have the right amount of surface area it will hold well and for a long time whatever the material. 

Mister Glue's Instant will bond materials to themselves and each other. For example it will glue pearl to metal and wood to stone.
